Erotic Hypnosis and Hypnokink
If you don’t already understand what hypnosis is and how it affects you, go read this page first. If you do understand hypnosis, then let’s talk about how to use it for erotic & kinky purposes!
Examples
The biggest sexual organ in your body is your brain. Your brain processes and controls almost everything about you, including:
- Physical sensations. What if I could intensify all the pleasurable feelings in your body? Every touch and caress making you moan and gasp in pleasure…
- Emotions and arousal. What if I could make you horny just by saying a specific trigger word? Or control just how horny you feel, adjusting it up and down as I decide?
- Attention. What if I could make you so drawn to me that you can’t pay attention to anything else? Every movement I make, every facial expression, every gesture draws you in deeper, until I fill your entire mind.
- Inhibitions and fears. What if I turned them off? Helping you understand that you can be as wild and free as you want to be, driven by lust and hedonism without guilt and shame.
- Desires. What if I could give you a new fetish or sexual curiosity? Or influence what body types make you excited?
- Personality. What if I could make you think you were someone else for a little while? How would you behave if you were a cocky jock, or a mindless robot, or the world’s sexiest porn star about to put on a show?
- Body control. What if you were frozen in place like a statue, unable to move, even while others touch and explore your body? What if you started masturbating, and were unable to stop until I gave you permission? What if you could get tied up with ropes that only exist in your mind?
- Sense of agency and self-control. What if you find yourself following my orders and directions automatically, before you’ve consciously decided to do so? You could find yourself in the passenger seat of your own mind, helplessly watching as I control your actions.
What Is Erotic Hypnosis?
Let’s back up a bit. Defining “erotic hypnosis” is actually a bit tricky, because in order to do that, you have to define what “erotic” is. Human sexuality is remarkably broad and complex; different people are aroused by different things. But broadly speaking, “erotic hypnosis” is about using hypnosis for erotic purposes — whatever that might mean, for the person being hypnotized.
For most people, the drive for arousal and sex is a powerful, primal pathway in the brain. A hypnotist can use that pathway to get into your mind, to find and push the buttons that get you hot and horny. It can be very intense, and a lot of fun! It can also be a surprisingly effective way to make positive changes in your mind; you can use the power of erotic hypnosis for more than just sexual play.
What Is Hypnokink?
The word “kink” (or “kinky”) refers to unconventional sexual practices, such as bondage and leather. Naturally, “hypnokink” means using hypnosis to explore these kinky activities. Some people might say that “erotic hypnosis” and “hypnokink” are two terms for the same thing, but to me, there is a difference.
I associate “erotic hypnosis” with activities that are directly sexual in nature: for example, using hypnosis to make someone more sensitive to physical pleasure, to order them to masturbate, or to make them feel desperate to get fucked. By contrast, I associate “hypnokink” with activities that, while they may be arousing to some people, are not directly sexual in nature: for example, using hypnosis to freeze someone in place like a statue, or to make them more ticklish, or to make them incredibly stupid.
Some people also use the term “recreational hypnosis” for these activities, to clarify that they are not necessarily erotic or sexual in nature at all. Some people just like the headspace and feeling of being in a trance, without involving anything sexual!
What Can You Do?
Hypnosis affects the mind, and as you read in the examples above, that means you can do many different things with it. My friend Northeyes, who is also a recreational hypnotist, has come up with a very useful taxonomy of hypnosis scenes. According to him, most hypnosis scenes fall into one or more of the following major categories:
- Sensationexamples: pleasure, ticklishness, simulated drunkenness, feeling high on drugs
- Objectificationexamples: frozen in place, bondage, edging, feelings of helplessness
- Humiliationexamples: acting foolish, forgetting your own name, stripping in public, stuck to the floor
- Transformationexamples: more masculine/feminine, act like a well-known celebrity, puppy play, drone play
- Dominationexamples: obedience to commands, responding to triggers, post-hypnotic effects, supernatural roleplay
You’ll notice that many of these examples fall into two or more categories simultaneously; reality is complex, and generally resists being neatly divided into distinct boxes. Despite that, these categories can be a useful tool to help people think about what they do and do not want to experience with hypnosis.
What Cannot Be Done?
Hypnosis affects the mind, but it does not (directly) affect the body. As a result, it’s not possible to use hypnosis to cause physical changes in someone’s body: hypnotic transformation play always refers to a mental transformation, not a physical one. Hypnosis cannot make you grow taller or shorter, make your dick bigger or smaller, etc. It is possible to use hypnosis to change some physical attributes indirectly; for example, if you want to get more muscular, hypnosis can help change your motivation and habits to work out more often and more intensely, which can result in muscle growth over time. But hypnosis cannot cause muscle growth all on its own.
Hypnosis cannot change who you fundamentally are as a person. It can be fun and exciting to play around with temporarily personality changes, but doing so is more akin to acting: the person being hypnotized is acting out a separate personality, a mask that they can put on and take off. Hypnosis cannot truly replace or rewrite your own personality, nor can hypnosis change your sexuality. Personality and sexuality are fluid parts of your identity; they can (slowly) change over time, whether hypnosis is involved or not. But the most that hypnosis can do in that process is attempt to guide those natural changes.
Consent and CNC
Hypnosis is not mind control, and cannot force you to do anything that you really don’t want to do. However, a lot of people who are into hypnokink have mind control fantasies; that is, they want to explore CNC play through the fantasy of a hypnotist controlling their mind.
